The Artists & Saboteurs Movement

"We're passionate, energetic, multi-disciplinary. We love creating  quality art in whatever medium we can. We make you laugh, and make you think too. We're on a mission to entertain and enlighten."

The Artists & Saboteurs movement was founded in 2006 by writers, musicians and creative artists Ruaidhri James and Luke Della Robbia.

We formed the movement to express our shared view of how art and personal expression should be approached. We believe in the concept of the 'artist provocateur', challenging conventional thinking as an essential starting point for innovative and creative expression.

We set up the website and brand to help promote both our work and the work of those who share these beliefs. The following is our Manifesto, written on the very night that Artists & Saboteurs was founded in a then smoky basement bar in Soho.

The Artists & Saboteurs Manifesto

  1. To act at all times in the spirit of the intellectual artist provocateur, targeting your constructive destruction in quest of enlightenment.
  1. To search, creatively and obstinately, for outstanding aesthetic beauty in every sphere.
  1. To ask deliberately challenging questions in your art to stimulate intellectual and aesthetic debate.
  1. To embody the vigorous bohemian spirit of lyricism, creation, sacrifice, dedication, enjoyment and achievement.
  1. To embrace the contrarian viewpoint that leads to honest examination of the subversive, the unusual, the disturbing, the alternative and the marginalised.
  1. To approach controversial material by accepting the principle of informed consent in all forms of human and artistic expression: the right to choose to know.
  1. To seek a sophistication of expression that favours subtlety and nuance over the clumsy and the arbitrary.
  1. To aspire uncompromisingly to the noble Renaissance ideal of well-roundedness, according to your personal interpretation and objectives.
  1. To understand the richness of controlled hedonism and the vitality of indulgence to attain greater awareness of the full experience of living.
  1. Wherever justified, to become an artistic and intellectual ‘rebel with a cause’ in order to raise your art and thought to a higher level.
  1. To act as an 'artist entrepreneur' to the best of your ability, in order to make the sublime messages in your art available to the widest possible audience and market without conceptual dilution.
